What each TikTok Ads metric actually means
Nine metrics, plain-English, in the order that matters when you are staring at a TikTok Ads Manager report at 11pm. Skim to the one that is off.
CTR — Click-through rate
Clicks ÷ Impressions × 100. On TikTok Ads, healthy CTR sits between 1.0% and 2.5% for cold prospecting and 3.0% or higher when you run a creator video as a Spark Ad against a warm audience. Below 0.8% and either the thumbnail is losing or the audience is wrong.
CPM — Cost per 1,000 impressions
Spend ÷ Impressions × 1,000. TikTok's median CPM in the U.S. and Western Europe runs $4 to $9 depending on vertical. Above $12 means your bid or audience is too tight.
CPC — Cost per click
Spend ÷ Clicks. Direct-response e-commerce should land at $0.15 to $0.60 CPC. Higher than $1 usually points to a hook that is not stopping the scroll.
CPA — Cost per acquisition
Spend ÷ Conversions. The number that decides whether you scale or kill. Target CPA is a function of your AOV and gross margin: (AOV × GPM%) − target profit per order.
ROAS — Return on ad spend
Revenue ÷ Spend. Blended 3.0× to 5.0× is healthy for direct-response TikTok on cold traffic. Under 2.0× and you are subsidising cold prospects. Over 6.0× and you are almost always leaving scale on the table.
ROI — Return on investment
(Gross Profit − Ad Spend) ÷ Ad Spend × 100. The one you show your CFO. Because ROI subtracts cost of goods, it exposes the campaigns that look great on ROAS but bleed on unit economics.
